Conditional Sentence Type 1
conditional sentence
used to express a supposition, wish, hope or plans that may or may not materialize.
general formula: if + condition, consequences or consequences + if + condition
Basically, the conditional sentence can be divided into 4 types: type 0, 1, 2, 3
conditional sentence type 1
used to say or presupposition about something that may happen in the future.
if + simple present, present future
present future + if + simple present
example:
"if you tell her the truth, she will forgive you."
"she will forgive you if you tell her the truth."
it means there is still a possibility. if the person being spoken to is honest with someone, there is still a chance that they will be forgiven
"if I pass the college selection, my father will give me a prize."
"my father will give me a prize if I pass the college selection."
meaning that I will be awarded a prize by my father if I pass the campus test. but I don't know whether I passed the test or not, and I expect I passed
"if you win the lottery, you will take me to Bali."
"you will take me to Bali if you win the lottery."
it means those of you who said you joined the lottery promised to take me to Bali if you managed to win. but you don't know whether you win or not, and you expect you win
"if it rains I will stay at home."
"I will stay at home if it rains."
meaning that I will stay at home if it rains. but I don't know if it will rain or not
"if He say it again, you will remember about that incident."
"you will remember about that incident if He say it again"
meaning that you will remember about that incident if He say it again. but you don't know if he wants to say it again or not, and you expect him to say it
Example Dialogue Type 1:
Najwa: I hope my cousin will get the first place tomorrow.
Ratna: Yes. I’ll be very happy if your cousin get the first place.
Najwa: If he wins, he will donate the prize to the orphanage. He’s such a nice person.
Ratna: Yes, I agree. He is also polite.
Najwa: Indeed he is. Do you want to go to the match with me?
Ratna: If my mother allows me, I’ll go with you.
Najwa: Okay!
